A DAY IN THE LIFE OF LUCKY

PHOTO: Water Fire Display - Providence, RI

My day begun with a quick ride on the stationary bicycle at the gym, a half day at work, then off to getting my hair highlighted and trimmed. The rest of the day was spent going through my closet to donate items to good will. That always makes me feel good and makes my closet look better! I then topped the day off by watching Sex & The City (the movie). It's hard to believe that this time last week, I was hundreds of miles away enjoying a luke-warm evening by the river, watching people dressed in masquerade masks dance and sing the night away. Now I am staring down the last few days of August and gearing up for September. Other then a 3 day holiday weekend to celebrate Labor Day, it should be a pretty routine month. It's October when things start hoppin' with two shows back to back. Then before you know it the start of the winter holidays will be among us. Craziness how fast this year is going!

Hello, this is GOD speaking

PHOTO: Locked Out 2009

Have you ever had such a kick in the arse that it made you take a minute (or more) to step back and look around? Has your life ever been threatened by crime, accident, or a deadly disease such as cancer, that you rejoiced in second chances? And what if your time was up after that? Did you make good on the promises you made yourself?

Since fighting for my second chance in life, I'd like to think I have made good for the most part, but I admit in the last couple months I have been "off" and spent more time chasing my own tail then going out and doing something about that list of short/long term goals. Uncertainty or lack of finances, take your pick, does it really matter? Excuses are just excuses. They mean nothing other to make the person who is making them feel better.....l-a-m-e.

After a week like the one I just experienced, it just reinforced me to get my act together, to remind me that second chances don't last forever. How pitiful I am not using every avenue available to me to experience the joy of the journey, to learn, to love more deeply. Hello GOD, I hear you, thanks for the kick in the butt I needed.

As a patient would say at the end of their appointment(s): SUCCESS!!

PROVIDENCE

Photo: LEAVES 2009

Rhode Island was beautiful. Friday was hotter then hell, but Saturday there were breezes from Hurricane Bill passing by out in the ocean. I loved the time I spent at the park just observing the colors of the leaves (they were starting to change!), listening to my surroundings, and the peacefulness of it all. In the evening, after visiting the convention for a couple hours, I made my way down to the Providence River to watch the Water Fire display and enjoyed the sights. Getting up at 330am Sunday to make the early flight back was not fun though. Even with all the delays (I was only gone for 48 hours) it was time well spent.....and worth every single blister!

AUGUST

I picked today as the day to do some major cleaning of the ol' place. I wanted to get an early start on this because my living room window faces the west, and it is a freaking sauna in here by 2pm until 9pm even with fans and the air conditioning.

First I started by going to Target to get some METHOD cleaning products and ended up with a few extra unintentional items for my outside foyer. DOH! It's the start of fall season for most of the country. School has started in some parts and harvest of grain, beans, and soon sunflowers will be taking place. It doesn't feel like fall here, no start of changing of the colors to look forward too, just another smoking hot summer day.

I vacuumed, scrubbed, washed, dusted, and organized with the scent of a pumpkin spice soy candle burning on the stove top and Kings of Leon (my new favorite cd) playing through the speakers of my stereo. In the midst, the construction crew whom has been painting the outside of the building, knocked on my door to get to my patio to replace the screens that had been cut in the process.

My place is spic n' span and it is even starting to cool off a bit. THANK GOODNESS! Think I will take my second shower of the day, something that is nearly a must in the summer here.

Photo - my fall items that will be taken over by spiders and bugs within a day or two.

5 THOUGHTS

Photo: CAGED by LL 2009

  • This humidity is a killer.
  • A Root Beer float sounds really good right now.
  • My head is starting to hurt from repeatedly hitting that glass ceiling.
  • Wonder if the local Sally's carries Snoods?
  • Started my Christmas shopping. You may laugh, however, doing a little at a time means all will be paid with cash when I have it, and I won't be stressin' like millions of others when the holiday hits. :p

SMURFS

It's Saturday morning, and I'd like to think if I didn't have to get up to go to work, I'd be sleeping in. Truth is if it was a day off, my eyes would have probably popped open at 6:30 with no alarm and my mind would start racing about things on the to-do list. As it is, my body yearns for another 15 mins in the warm comfy bed and my eyes filled with sleep attempt to stay open, I can't help to think about Saturday mornings as a kid.

Saturdays, of coarse, had the best cartoons usually earlier the better. One of my favorites was a small village deep within the forest. Within this village were houses made out of mushrooms where little blue people, The Smurfs, lived.

There seemed to be hundreds of them, and what I never understood was, how could there be so many including a Papa-Smurf but yet no Mama-Smurf? Did Azrael snatch her up in his kitty-cat sharp teeth? Did she die during a smurf-birth? Or did she just loose her mind after having so many smurfs and make a run for the hills?

Within this tale, Baby Smurf was just dropped off by a stork in the middle of the night and the Smurf colony, just adopted him. But what if that was just a cover and he was really Smurfette's baby with Hefty, or Poet, or Handy Smurf? After all, she was made by the wizard Gargamel to cause havoc with all the others. (It was Papa Smurf who undid the spell and made her so sweet.....so says the story anyways. ;O))

Just sayin' is all.
